Please be aware that Parental Control software may cause the KVHS course to function incorrectly or not to function. (3) Computers attached to school Local Area Networks typically use network interface cards to access the Internet are not required to have modems. If you have questions about this, please contact your School Technology Coordinator.

Second on your checklist is an Internet Service Provider (ISP). An ISP is a company that provides you with the software and access necessary for getting onto the Internet. You will need Internet access to take your courses.

It is possible for KVHS work to be done at school on school computers, if your school is connected to the Internet. If you intend to work from home, you will need to find an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Third on your list is an email account. Your email address is established when you sign up with an ISP. Check with your ISP if you do not know what your email address is. Special characters can cause problems with some systems that make it difficult to reach the intended mailbox. We suggest that you do not use special characters, for example, +, &, $, etc., in your email address.

All Kentucky public school students are expected to use a KETS e-mail account (an e-mail account generated and maintained at your school or district) with their KVHS work. If you are a Kentucky public school student and do not have a district e-mail account, please contact your School Technology Coordinator for more information. If you are not a Kentucky public school student, your e-mail address is established by your non-public school, or when you sign up with an ISP.

Fourth on your list is a Java capable browser. We support Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0 for Windows and Internet Explorer 4.5, 5.0 and 5.01 for Macintosh. Netscape Communicator 4.77, 4.78 and 4.79, for Windows and Macintosh, are also supported.

Downloads for the newest browser versions are free of charge. To upgrade your browser to the latest version on the market, click on the appropriate link below. Wondering if your browser meets the specs? Take the Browser Test to find out.
